Western Acupuncture

At SCOPE Chiropractic we utilise various ‘tools’ to improve your pain and dysfunction. One of the tools that we use is acupuncture. Acupuncture needles are very fine needles that are inserted into specific points in the muscle. It has been shown to be very effective for reducing pain, as well as restoring good movement patterns. Our approach to acupuncture is termed western acupuncture or dry needling and is used as part of your treatment when necessary.  Acupuncture needles help by improving blood flow to tight or painful muscles to reduce your pain. It has also been shown to ‘reset’ the pain centres in your brain by releasing various neurotransmitters. Depending on your issue, the acupuncture needles may be left in for up to 15 minutes or may be inserted and taken out straight away.

Western Acupuncture can help many conditions including:

  • Lower back and neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Shoulder pain
  • Muscular and ligamentous sprains and strains
  • Nerve related back pain
  • Sporting injuries
  • Tennis elbow
  • Plantar fascia (bottom of the foot) pain
  • Repetitive strain injuries (RSI)
